The three kind ladies, of different ages, who leave Ireland for the first time for a trip to Lourdes, believe in miracles. It will be up to their parish priest to explain how things are. This is the frame. The gist is that years earlier a fourth lady had left Ireland out of necessity, now she has returned, she joins the three in search of miracles and this will help to clarify things between them. Not everything flows perfectly in the film, but the whole manages to escape the dangers of real or presumed religiosity connected to Lourdes, and returns an ultimately secular experience of what life offers, in the cultural conditioning of each one. Very good performance, especially that of the almost ninety-year-old Maggie Smith. The evening passes pleasantly.
